Embroidering on Felt

Usually when I’m doing an embroidery project, I trace my design with a pencil unto the fabric. That is not possible with felt or fabrics with a high pile.

That leaves three options: iron on transfers or pencils, freehand (as on this sunflower needlecase I made many years ago.), or using tracing or tissue paper.

For this sewing basket set, and embroidery envelope I’ve chosen to use tracing paper.

  1. Trace your design on the paper.
  2. Baste to your felt.
  3. Embroider over both felt and paper.
  4. Carefully pull the tracing paper away, using tweezers for small areas.
